Rogue security guard fined $18,000 for unlicensed security work in Auckland
Auckland NZ April 24 2019 A rogue security operator has been convicted and fined $18,000 for repeatedly providing unlicensed security work in Auckland.
In a decision released on Tuesday, Sean Micheals, also known as Seu Ilai Taleni, 56, pled guilty of operating his security services without a license in the Manukau District Court.
It found Micheals was operating security services without a license under the businesses Corporate Group International Limited, Corporate Protection and Security International Limited and HD Security Services Limited.
Marty Greentree of the Department of Internal Affairs said the man not only took advantage of his clients, but also their employees: “who became victims of his unethical business practices.”
“Security services are often in positions of authority and having unlicensed cowboys in the industry puts the public at real risk.
“If people break the law, we will catch them.”
Greentree said two of those companies he worked for had already been was prosecuted for a similar offence in 2014, when Micheals held officer positions there.
“The requirement for a security license helps protect New Zealanders and security operators by ensuring service providers are trusted, trained, and comply with the law.”
