S.C. security guard charged with first-degree burglary, two counts of voyeurism
RICHLAND COUNTY, SC April 5 2019
A man who worked as a driver for Uber and Lyft and as a security guard is accused of peeping on and photographing women without their knowledge while they were in their homes, according to Richland County deputies.
Keith Hoefer is charged with first-degree burglary, two counts of voyeurism and two counts of peeping tom, the Richland County Sheriff’s Department said Wednesday morning. The charges stem from repeated incidents in 2017 and 2018.
On April 29, 2018, Hoefer unlawfully entered the apartment of a victim around 3:30 a.m. on the 1400 block of Main Street, deputies said. While she was asleep, he took photographs and video of her, which included nudity.
On June 8, 2017, around 9:30 p.m., Hoefer went to the victim’s home on the 300 block of Sawyer Court and, without her knowledge or consent, took photographs of her while she was in her home through a window, deputies said.
On Sept. 22, 2017, at around 4 a.m. at the 300 block of Sawyer Court, surveillance video from a victim’s home shows Hoefer standing at her back window attempting to look inside, deputies said.
The investigation involved three separate victims, a sheriff’s department spokeswoman said Wednesday.
Hoefer worked for both Uber and Lyft as a driver, while also serving as a security guard at various locations including apartment complexes, according to the sheriff’s department. It was unclear how he allegedly knew the women, but a sheriff’s department spokeswoman said investigators confirmed one of the victims lived at a location where Hoefer worked as a security guard.
First-degree burglary carries up to life in prison, under South Carolina law.
