Sacramento County now mandates that hotels issue panic alarms to employees
Sacramento CA Feb 9 2018
A Sacramento County Board of Supervisors vote has made this one of the first cities in the nation to mandate personal panic buttons be issued to all hotel and motel employees.
By a 4 to 1 vote Tuesday night, the board has decided to require hotels and motels in the unincorporated area of the county to supply panic buttons or other notification devices to employees in case they face sexual harassment.
The ordinance states these devices should be provided at no cost to the employee and are designed to be used only in an emergency to summon hotel security or other appropriate staff.
The ordinance applies to hotels with 25 or more rooms. That equates to 24 of 32 hotels in the unincorporated county.
