Salem Restaurant Security Guard Charged In Theft
SALEM, MA April 28 2022— A Koto Restaurant security guard was charged with breaking and entering and larceny after Salem police said he admitted to stealing money from a locked closet in the Washington Street business.
Police said Koto’s owner reported the break-in early Saturday morning after discovering a closet forced open and a “large sum of money missing.”
Police said surveillance video showed a security guard, Joshua Gosselin, 33, who had reported absent from work, was found to be in the area at the time of the break-in. Police said the employee then showed up during the investigation and appeared “visibly alarmed to see police officers present.”
Police said the employee agreed to be interviewed and then admitted to being responsible for the break-in. Police said he had a “large amount of currency” with him and told police he had more at his home.
The remaining money was found during a warrant search of the suspect’s home.
Gosselin was charged with breaking and entering in the nighttime with intent to commit a felony and larceny from a building.
