San Antonio police officer fatally shoots shoplifter who cut him
San Antonio TX Jan 29 2018 A robbery suspect was shot and killed and an officer is injured after an officer-involved shooting Thursday evening on the city’s North Side.
The shooting happened around 6:30 p.m. on NW Loop 410 just before the McCullough Avenue exit.
San Antonio police Chief William McManus said a man in his 20s was trying to steal a bike at a Target in the area. Security tried to stop the man and called police.
The man fled on the bike from the Target up onto Loop 410. Officers in the area followed the man and tried to subdue him.
When officers attempted to subdue the man on Loop 410, he pulled out a knife and cut an officer, police said.
An officer, identified as Paul Armendariz, who was been with the department for 15 years then pulled out his service weapon and shot the man in the abdomen, killing him.
The officer was then taken to a nearby hospital.
He’ll be placed on administrative duty during the investigation.
