SC security officer thwarts sexual assault
Columbia, SC November 11 2018 Columbia police have released surveillance images of a man who they say sexually assaulted and beat up a woman in downtown Columbia.
The incident happened in the 1003 block of Elmwood Avenue around 1 a.m. on November 3.
A security guard said he was on patrol in that area when he heard a woman who was in trouble. When he followed her cries for help, he found the victim partially dressed and the suspect choking her. When the security officer tried to stop him, the suspect ran away.
Paramedics say the victim suffered multiple injuries, including a broken nose and swollen eyes. The victim has since been treated and released from a local hospital.
The suspect was reportedly last seen wearing a blue jacket, blue jeans, with a white and blue knit cap with orange and red trim with gray shoes.
