School burglar caught by security officer receives 3 yr prison sentence
Akron OH Jan 29 2020
A 28-year-old Akron man was sentenced to three years in prison Monday for breaking into a former Akron school and violating his probation.
Prosecutors say Tre Williams was one of three men who broke into the former Goodrich Middle School, 700 Lafollette St., on Aug. 25. A private security guard who responded to an alarm found the men with cutting tools and several carts of copper pipes. They entered the building by cutting a locked chain and disabled the alarm by cutting the power.
Williams was convicted by a jury Friday of breaking and entering, a fifth-degree felony.
Summit County Common Pleas Judge Joy Oldfield sentenced Williams to one year in prison for this charge and two years for a probation violation for a prior drug case.
Travis Brown, 27, of Akron, pleaded guilty earlier this month to breaking and entering and was sentenced to one year of probation. Harold Twitty, 47, of Akron, pleaded guilty Monday to breaking and entering. He will be sentenced Feb. 24 by Oldfield.
