School security guard arrested in Mississippi for child sex crimes
HERNANDO, Miss. December 24 2021
A school security guard was arrested in Mississippi after making a cross-country drive to have sex with a 13-year-old girl, according to law enforcement and school officials.
Hernando Police said that 28-year-old Samuel James Hugg was arrested Tuesday morning after officers pulled him over.
During the traffic stop, Hugg began fighting with police, pulled out a gun and fired a shot, grazing himself across the chest, police said.
Investigators said that they had been talking to Hugg for several days and that Hugg, who traveled to Mississippi from Mars, Pennsylvania, had been involved in sexually explicit conversations during that time and throughout his travels with a 13-year-old girl who he planned to meet up with for a sexual encounter.
On Wednesday, the Eden Christian Academy Board of Directors in Pennsylvania confirmed that Hugg was a subcontracted campus security guard for the school system in a letter obtained by FOX13′s sister station WPXI in Pittsburgh.
“It is with great disappointment we write to inform you that our subcontracted security guard, Samuel J. Hugg, was arrested in Mississippi yesterday and charged with enticement of a minor to meet for sexual purposes, possession of child pornography, disorderly conduct, resisting arrest and attempted aggravated assault,” a letter to family, faculty and staff from the board of directors said.
Eden Christian Academy said that once they heard the news they immediately removed Hugg’s access to all school buildings and ended their relationship with the private security company that referred Hugg’s.
“Most importantly, our highest priority is to ensure our students were not emotionally, physically, or sexually harmed and encourage parents to talk with their children. Hugg provided security at our campuses from August 2020 until December 16, 2021. At this point in time, the board has not been made aware of any criminal misconduct on our campuses. We understand that he also ran a private photography company. If you are aware of any possible improprieties or crimes, we ask that you report it immediately to your local police,” the school board said.
After his struggle with officers in which he shot himself across the chest, Hugg was taken to a local hospital in non-critical condition, according to the Hernando Police Department.
Hugg is charged with enticement of a child to meet for sexual purposes, possession of child pornography, disorderly conduct, resisting arrest and attempted aggravated assault.
