School security guard hit with chicken nugget suspended, student arrested for fighting
PITTSBURGH PA December 25, 2021 A Pittsburgh Westinghouse staff member is on paid leave and four students are facing disciplinary action after an altercation.
Pittsburgh Public Schools is investigating the incident that happened Tuesday afternoon, a spokesperson for the district said.
It all started after the staff member, a security guard, was hit with a chicken nugget in the lunchroom, according to the mother of one of the students involved. School officials have not confirmed that information, but students told KDKA that is how it all started.
The students claim that things quickly escalated after the chicken nugget was thrown, with the security guard allegedly fighting the students in the cafeteria. They said it carried on to the main office.
“The security guard, he got to go home, and my son got arrested. That’s not fair. He jumped on my son,” said the mother, who did not want to go on camera.
KDKA has not confirmed if any arrests were made.
The fight involved four students and a staff member, according to a school official.
The employee was placed on leave pending the investigation’s outcome, the district said, and the students will be disciplined in line with the student code of conduct.
Calling it a personnel matter, the district’s spokesperson wouldn’t release more information. No injuries were reported.
