Springfield MI Aug 21 2020
Three people, a man, 26, a woman, 22, and a 16-year-old boy were arrested early Wednesday after Calhoun County Sheriff Department deputies said they broke into the Springfield Middle School and were stealing shoes.
Deputies were called to the school at 1023 Avenue in Springfield at 1:23 a.m. and found a rear door open.
Several deputies and a security guard began searching and found the three suspects.
Deputies said they had backpacks containing shoes taken from inside the school.
The man and woman told deputies their 16-year-old cousin said they should go to the school and take some shoes.
The man had five pairs of shoes size 4 to 9½ and the 16-year-old had three pair of shoes sized 6 to 8.
Both the adults told deputies the trio entered the school through an upper window after climbing onto the roof. They said the teenager said they needed to get shoes. The teenager declined to talk to deputies.
Both adults were taken to the Calhoun County jail and the teenager was released to his mother pending charges in juvenile court. The shoes will be returned to the school.
