Security guard accidentally shoots government employee
St Lucia Feb 4 2018 A male employee of the Ministry of Infrastructure, Ports, Energy and Labour was accidentally shot by a male security guard at the Ministry’s office in Union on Friday, Feb. 2, 2018, according to sources.
The incident occurred in the coffee room after 2:30 p.m.
Reports are that the employee was making a cup of tea and having a conversation with the security guard when the gun accidentally went off,.
According to eyewitnesses, the bullet grazed the fingers on the right hand of the employee who was transported by private means to the nearest medical facility.
The wounds do not appear to be serious, according to eyewitnesses.
Two police officers were in the area when the incident occurred. One of the officers reportedly took the security guard’s firearm, a Glock handgun.
The injured staff and the security guard are believed to be in the 20-30s age range.
It was not immediately clear if the security guard was arrested.
