Security guard accused of raping employee in Akron federal courthouse
AKRON, Ohio April 16, 2026— A security guard is accused of sexually assaulting a woman in the federal building and courthouse in downtown Akron, court records say.
Jason Simmons, 32, attacked the woman in the building’s employee-only weight room at the John F. Seiberling Federal Building and U.S. Courthouse in Akron, police said.
Simmons is charged in Akron Municipal Court with rape. He posted 10 percent of a $50,000 bond on Friday and was released from jail. No attorney is listed in court records for Simmons.
Akron police spokesman Lt. Michael Murphy said Simmons worked as a contracted security guard at U.S. District Court in downtown Akron.
The incident happened between 12:30 and 1:30 p.m. on April 9, according to a police report.
Murphy said investigators determined that the two were in the weight room alone when Simmons approached the woman and assaulted her.
The woman left the room and reported the incident to courthouse security officials, who contacted Akron police.
Murphy said detectives interviewed the woman and Simmons before making the arrest.
