Security guard at Manhattan federal prosecutor’s office has coronavirus
Manhattan NY March 15 2020
A security officer who works in the US federal prosecutor’s office in Lower Manhattan has tested positive for the coronavirus, a source familiar with the matter told The Post on Friday.
The security officer works in the federal office of Manhattan US Attorney Geoffrey Berman in St. Andrew’s Plaza near One Police Plaza and the federal courthouses near Foley Square, the source said.
Officials in the building were alerted of the positive test Thursday night and began sterilizing the area where the guard worked. The building remained open Friday.
The security officer’s diagnosis comes as federal courthouses in the Southern District of New York have sought to limit the number of people coming in and out of their buildings.
On Thursday, court officials announced jury trials scheduled to begin next week would be suspended.
The federal district is also halting ceremonies for immigrants being sworn in as US citizens after Friday, District Executive Edward Friedland said.
