Security guard charged with killing Georgia 911 dispatcher in dispute outside bar
Macon Ga June 19 2020
A man was fatally wounded outside a Macon bar during an argument with the establishment’s private security guards late Wednesday.
Devontae Tennyson, 25, of Macon, was pronounced dead at the Medical Center, Navicent Health, shortly after midnight, Bibb County Coroner Leon Jones said.
Tennyson was shot during an exchange of gunfire in the parking lot of the Midtown Daiquiri Bar & Grill at 4376 Log Cabin Drive, according to a Bibb County Sheriff’s Office news release. The incident occurred at 11:26 p.m.
“According to witness statements … Tennyson and private security guards employed by the Midtown Daiquiri Bar & Grill got into an argument in the parking lot. During the argument, gunfire was exchanged. Tennyson was shot during the incident,” the release said.
The private security guards were not off-duty law enforcement officers, according to the Bibb sheriff’s office.
Security guard Donavon Scott-Sinclair, 24, of Fort Valley, has been arrested and charged with murder in the fatal shooting, according to an updated release.
According to the sheriff’s office, Scott-Sinclair was transferred to another jail because his father is a Bibb County Sheriff’s deputy. The sheriff’s office would not provide the name of the facility, and the Telegraph was not able to independently verify his transfer. A Telegraph reporter will continue to check jail logs for updates.
Tennyson, who was shot multiple times, was wounded in his chest, abdomen and side, Jones said.
Tennyson had been employed as a Macon-Bibb County 911 dispatcher since October 2018, said Chris Floore, Macon-Bibb County spokesman.
A person answering the phone at the bar Thursday declined comment.
So far this year, the Bibb County coroner’s office has recorded 30 homicide victims, including in the count the unborn child of a pregnant homicide victim and a teenager killed in a car crash in which the fleeing teen driver was charged with felony murder, Jones said.
Also included is an officer-involved shooting earlier this month, and the shooting death of Macon man thought to have been an intruder late last year. The man was shot by a resident Dec. 29 and died Jan. 19, Jones said.
