On June 13, 2018 officers with the Break and Enter Unit of the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service arrested 26-year-old Tony Agawa of Eagle Street for dangerous operation of a motor vehicle and failing to remain at the scene of a collision.
It is alleged that on June 13, 2018, the accused attended a business at 293 Bay St. where he selected just over $230 worth of merchandise and left the store without paying. The accused was approached by store security and fled the area.
The security officer chased the accused to the parking lot where the accused entered a vehicle and accelerated forward forcing the victim onto the hood of the vehicle. The accused then continued through the parking lot at a high rate of speed and made an aggressive turn causing the victim to roll off of the vehicle and onto the pavement. The accused then fled the area and the victim was later transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Officers later found that the vehicle used in this offence had been stolen from a residence in Sault Ste. Marie. Officers located the accused on June 14 and he was taken into custody.
He has been charged with:
One count of possession of property obtained by crime
One count of robbery,
One count of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing bodily harm,
One count of failure to remain at the scene of a collision, and;
2 counts of driving while suspended
He will appear in bail court today.
