Security guard discharges firearm inside Alabama healthcare facility
Tuscaloosa AL July 18, 2023 Tuscaloosa Police confirm there were no injuries or criminal charges filed last week when an employee at Maude Whatley Health Center accidentally discharged a firearm inside the main facility.
TPD spokeswoman Stephanie Taylor said officers were first called to the health care facility at 3:29 p.m. on Thursday, July 13, and learned that the employee had fired only one round by mistake.
Officers then found that the bullet had traveled through a wall and lodged in the ceiling.
After the initial investigation, no one was charged as a result of the incident.
While it has yet to be officially confirmed by administrators at Maude Whatley, an employee who asked not to be identified by name said the accidental discharge was by a security guard.
The health care facility, located on Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard, offers a wide range of health care services, such as internal medicine, family medicine, pediatric and adolescent medicine and mental health services.
