Security guard doused with liquid and threatened with lighter in terrifying Asda armed raid
Leeds UK Sept 5 2019 A security guard was doused in liquid by armed robbers and threatened with a lighter during a terrifying armed raid at a Leeds Asda store .
Armed robbers targeted a cash van outside the Killingbeck store on Wednesday morning carrying an axe and what appeared to be a sawn off shotgun.
The group of five or six men approached security guards delivering cash to the supermarket, on York Road, just after 7am and forced them to hand over the cash before fleeing in a van that was later found on fire in a nearby cemetery .
West Yorkshire Police have now confirmed that during the terrifying incident one of the security guards was doused in liquid by the robbers and threatened with a lighter.
A spokesman added: “The threat was not seen through and he was not injured.”
The robbers fled the scene in a white Mercedes Sprinter van which was later found abandoned and on fire in Killingbeck Cemetery.
Detective Inspector Al Burns, of Leeds District CID, said: “This was a really frightening experience for the staff involved and although no-one was physically injured, they have been left very badly shaken by what happened.
“We are treating this incident very seriously.
