Security guard fatally shoots man at nightclub
East St. Louis IL. October 4th, 2023 A Belleville man employed as a security guard was charged Tuesday in the weekend shooting death of a man in East St. Louis.
Terrell Amerson, 27, is being held at the East St. Louis Police Department, according to a release from the Illinois State Police. He is charged with first-degree murder, three counts of unlawful possession of a weapon by a felon and unlawful possession of firearm ammunition by a felon, the release states.
He is accused of shooting Dayman Warren Jr. of Granite City in the 900 block of St. Louis Avenue in East St. Louis, according to the release.
Tara Rick, spokeswoman for the St. Louis Medical Examiner’s Office, said Warren was pronounced dead at 1:58 a.m. Sunday at St. Louis University Hospital.
Amerson was taken into custody the same day, the release states. The St. Clair County State’s Attorney’s Office reviewed the case and approved charges Tuesday.
East St. Louis Police Chief Kendall Perry said earlier that the security guard was working at a nightclub on St. Louis Avenue when he shot the man after a fight broke out.
The owner of the club, who asked not to be identified, said contracted security guards tried to diffuse an altercation outside the business but about 20 people tried to fight them. “After that I don’t know what happened,” he said. “I was inside. What happens off my property I do not control.”
