Security guard injured in grocery store brawl
Jackson MS January 9 2019
A grocery store in Jackson closed early on Saturday night and a security guard was injured after a fight broke out in a store aisle between a group of women.
The fight, which involved as many as six women, reportedly happened sometime between 7 p.m. and 7:20 p.m. according to media reports.
When asked on Monday if Food Depot on Northside Drive will be pressing charges against anyone, Supervisor Mike Rosamond said the matter is still being investigated by the Jackson Police Department.
“Food Depot provides a safe and family friendly atmosphere for our customers and workers,” Rosamond added.
Witnesses told WAPT that the women were throwing cantaloupes and other produce.
A security guard who intervened was allegedly struck in the head with a glass bottle of syrup. He was transported from the scene in an ambulance.
The people suspected of being involved in the brawl had left the store before officers arrived, WJTV reported. The incident was captured on video and posted on Facebook.
