Security Guard Poked In Eyes By Angry St. Joe’s
JOLIET, IL Aug 27 2021— Joliet police arrested a 27-year-old Bolingbrook resident in connection with a burglary and a subsequent outburst at the St. Joe’s hospital where several of the nurses and a security guard were attacked by patient Antonio Morrison, police reports show.
Morrison is now in the Will County Jail where he’s been charged with criminal damage to property, two counts of aggravated battery to a security officer and one count of aggravated battery.
The incident that led to Morrison’s first encounter with Joliet police happened around 12:10 a.m. on Aug. 18. Police were called to a burglary in the 800 block of Second Avenue.
“Officers determined that someone had broken the front door and window to an enclosed front porch,” Joliet police announced. “Officers began to check the area and located Morrison in the detached garage of the residence bleeding profusely from his hands. Morrison was placed into custody without incident and advised officers that he was under the influence of narcotics.”
A Joliet Fire Department was called to the scene and Morrison was taken to St. Joe’s hospital where he was admitted, and Joliet police called a custody hold on him.
Around 9:40 a.m. on Aug. 18, Joliet police were sent to the hospital because Morrison had attacked a nurse and multiple security guard, police said.
“It was indicated that Morrison removed his IV line and left his room. A nurse was able to escort him back to his room,” police Sgt. Dwayne English stated. “The nurse then began to treat Morrison at which time he grabbed the nurse’s forearm and began squeezing her arm, refusing to let go. Hospital security responded to Morrison’s room at which time Morrison pushed a security guard onto a hospital bed and placed his thumbs in the eyes of the security guard.”
Joliet police say that Morrison also punched a female security officer in the eye and scratched her arm. Around 6:30 p.m. on Monday, Morrison was released from the hospital and Joliet police were summoned to bring him to the Will County Jail where he was booked into custody.
