Security guard shoot-out at Price Chopper parking lot left man, young girl injured
Kansas City Oct 25 2018
A shootout Tuesday night in the parking lot of a Price Chopper in south Kansas City left one man and a child injured, according to police.
The shooting also involved an armed security guard who opened fire in an effort to stop the incident, police said Wednesday, releasing new details about the incident.
Police earlier had thought that a total of three people were wounded, but they clarified Wednesday afternoon that there were two victims: an man who was still in serious condition at a hospital Wednesday and a young girl who suffered three gunshot wounds but was expected to survive.
The shooting occurred about 8 p.m. in the store’s parking lot at 95th Street and Blue Ridge Boulevard.
Police on Wednesday said they were urgently seeking help from anyone who was in the area at that time and might have seen part of the incident.
Police were looking for a dark-colored SUV that was seen leaving the parking lot.
The shooting stemmed from an armed encounter between several persons, including the injured. Details of what prompted the shooting have not been released. An unknown suspect fired shots at the victims in the parking lot, police said.
An armed security guard at the store tried to intervene, firing several shots from near the entrance of the store, toward the altercation. Police said none of the guard’s shots hit anyone.
Detectives were reviewing surveillance video and interviewing witnesses, police said.
No arrests have been made and the investigation continued Wednesday.
