Security guard shoots man walking around Sparks nightclub parking lot with a rifle
PARKS, Nev. June 2 2018 A man was arrested after walking around the parking lot of a Sparks nightclub with a rifle, according to the Sparks Police Department.
According to Sgt. John Patton, an armed security guard working at a 1825 Prater Way told police that he shot and injured a male and the man exited a vehicle with a rifle-type firearm.
The suspect, later identified as Carlos Leyva, aimed the firearm at an unarmed man in the parking lot and the security guard, says Patton.
The security guard told police he feared for his life and the other victim’s life and fired his gun several times hitting Leyva in the upper leg.
Police say Leyva sustained a substantial wound and was released from the hospital on May 30.
Leyva, a convicted felon, was taken into custody and booked into the Washoe County Detention Facility on two counts of assault with a deadly weapon and ex-felon in possession of a firearm.
Patton says the security guard is cooperating with the investigation and no charges have been filed against him.
