Security guard shot, robbed at Coconut Grove hotel closed for construction

Police say that a security officer is in critical condition and fighting for his life after being ambushed, robbed and then shot at a hotel under construction.
Investigators believe that the culprits snuck into the Courtyard by Marriott on Bayshore Drive and took the security officer by surprise.
Miami police Officer Kenia Fallat said the security guard who was not armed, was shot and robbed of his chain.
She said the victim is in his 70s.
Fallat said the victim was taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital’s Ryder Trauma Center in very serious critical condition.
The hotel is closed until next year while it undergoes renovation.
