Security guard stops would-be bank robber in San Diego
SAN DIEGO CA Aug 22 2020 — A security guard stopped a would-be bank robber from making off in Rolando Village on Thursday, San Diego police and FBI officials said.
The attempted robbery was reported about 11:10 a.m. at a U.S. bank in a Vons on El Cajon Boulevard near College Avenue, where authorities said a woman used a note to demand cash. No one was injured.
Police said a security guard detained the suspect, a 22-year-old woman, outside the business. FBI spokeswoman Davene Butler said the woman was not armed when she was detained.
A vehicle possibly involved in the failed robbery led police on a chase — from College Avenue onto eastbound Interstate 8. The driver exited at Fletcher Parkway and ultimately yielded near the exit on Alvarado Road. Officers took the driver into custody and were investigating whether the driver was involved in the attempted robbery.
