Security Officer Fatally Injured in Hit-Run Crash
FLEMMING ISLAND, Fla. Aug 9 2017– Family and friends of a security officer hit while riding his scooter in Clay County on Friday said Tuesday that he won’t survive.
Glen McDonald, 39, was driving southbound on the Black Creek Bridge at about 10:20 p.m. Friday, when Lisa Beverly, 54, of Green Cove Springs, Florida, who was driving a GMC SUV, rear-ended him and kept driving, troopers said.
McDonald was thrown from his scooter and Beverly kept going, dragging his scooter until it burst into flames and became dislodged near Shedd Road, troopers said.
Beverly then continued to drive to her home in Green Cove Springs, troopers said.
Troopers said McDonald’s body is being kept alive for organ donation, but his loved ones said the end of his life is already here.
A close friend of McDonald, Anthony Guirate, told News4Jax that it’s a shame something like this happened to such a good person.
Guirate said he was shocked to find out his old friend was sent to the hospital after a hit-and-run crash in Fleming Island Friday night. Guirate said he always remembered McDonald having a servant’s heart.
“He drove bus ministries. He never missed a service. He never missed Sunday school. He never missed a class,” Guirate said.
He said he’ll never forget watching McDonald grow up in church and the days he spent as his commander in the Ranger program together.
“He was definitely God blessed and was definitely willing to work for God in any capacity he could,” Guirate said.
Guirate says losing McDonald is hard for everyone who knows him.
“We kept up enough that it’s hard hearing this happened. I mean, I couldn’t believe it,” Guirate said.
Although he doesn’t understand how someone could hit a person then drive away, Guirate said he knows his friend is safe with God.
“God loves her. God will forgive her and I’m sure Glen will too,” Guirate said.
A GoFundMe account was created to help pay for expenses.
Troopers arrested Beverly at her home hours after the crash and charged her with leaving the scene of a crash with serious bodily injury.
McDonald is an employee of US Security Associates.
