Security officer fatally shoots man at fast food restaurant
Phoenix AZ Feb 9 2018
An investigation by Phoenix police is underway today after a security officer shot and killed a man at a Jack-In-The-Box restaurant on Wednesday night.
Officials say they were called to the store near 35th Avenue and Buckeye Road around 7 p.m. by a security officer who had just gotten into a confrontation with another man.
According to police, the security guard said a man was refusing to leave the property and threatening him.
Police said that at some point, the security officer pulled his firearm while backing away from the man, and the man charged at him. The security guard fired his weapon when the man didn’t stop.
The man, only identified as being 64 years old, died at the scene.
Police say the 23-year-old security officer, who is armed and employed on site, is cooperating with investigators.
Police said that they are not ready to comment further on the use of force by the security guard or to release his identity.
Detectives are continuing their investigation and the case will be submitted to the County Attorney for review.
