Security officer injured in East Point Walmart shooting

A loss prevention agent confronting a shoplifter was shot and is in critical condition.
According to police, shots were fired inside a Walmart by a man accused of shoplifting at the East Point Walmart on Cleveland Avenue.
“We arrived on the scene and what we learned was that a loss prevention agent and another employee had walked up to an individual they believed had shoplifted, and a scuffle ensued,” said Detective Glover.
During that scuffle the Walmart security agent was shot and was transported to Grady in serious condition.
The shooter, a 24-year-old male whose name has not yet been released, fled the scene but was quickly caught when another Walmart employee followed him and called 911.
Police canvassed the area and arrested the suspect.
Police did not say what the person was trying to steal or if anyone else was involved.
