Security Officer Punched By Suspect At Home Depot
WEST HARTFORD, CT May 23 2019— Police are looking for two men in connection to a robbery at Home Depot in which a security officer was punched by a shoplifter on Monday morning. Police responded to Home Depot, located at 503 New Park Ave., shortly after 9 a.m. on May 20 on the report of a robbery. The stolen merchandise was recovered, however, the suspect fled the scene as a passenger in a red Ford Explorer, according to police.
Police quickly located the vehicle leaving the area and after initially stopping for the officer, the suspect(s) attempted to engage police in a pursuit, police said.
“Although officers did not pursue the vehicle, officers nearby were able to use tire deflation equipment on the Ford and it continued on,” police wrote in a press release. “Officers saturated the area, and eventually located the vehicle unoccupied on Regent St. in Hartford. A State Police K9 track was conducted, with assistance from Hartford Police as well, however, no suspects were located.”
The suspects were described as: Driver (accomplice) — a black male about 6-feet tall, weighing 200 pounds with short dark hair and last seen wearing a gray top and jeans. Passenger (robbery suspect) — A Hispanic male about 5-feet, 8-inches tall, weighing 175 pounds with dark curly hair and last seen wearing a black shirt, blue sweatshirt/sweater and jeans.
The loss prevention employee at Home Depot suffered “very minor injuries” after being punched, according to police.
