Security officer shoots armed burglar after dramatic chase and stand-off

A dramatic stand-off between armed security officers and a man swinging a four- to five-foot-long pipe ended with security shooting the man.
Houston police say that this all started when the man tried breaking into the Houston federal courthouse on Rusk Street in the downtown area of Houston.
When security officers tried apprehending the man, he fled on foot with three security officers in pursuit.
When they reached the T.C. Energy building on Louisiana Street the man broke a window at that location and ran into the building making his way into a conference room while swinging the pipe at the security officers.
Police said that he continued to swing the steel pipe, hitting one of the security officers and refused to drop the pipe.
That’s when one of the security officers shot the man in the leg.
The suspect was taken to Ben Taub Hospital and is expected to survive, according to police.
Investigators said he appeared to be under the influence of something but did not specify what.
The man who has not been identified may face both federal and state criminal charges police said.
