Security officer shoots-kills man who attacked him with a knife
STOCKTON CA April 20 2020 ― Authorities are investigating after a security guard reportedly shot and killed a man who reportedly stabbed himself, then ran toward the guard with the knife on Friday night on Country Club Boulevard, according to Stockton police.
The fatal shooting occurred at about 7:30 p.m. in the 2400 block of Country Club Boulevard.
Police did not indicate where the security guard worked. There is a church and an apartment complex near the area where the incident reportedly occurred, as well as some business and residential areas.
Officers were initially called to an apartment complex in the area of Country Club Boulevard between Clipper Drive and Fraser Avenue on a report of a shooting. When they arrived, they located a 52-year-old man who was shot and had stab wounds. Medics pronounced the man deceased at the scene and homicide detectives responded for the investigation.
During the investigation, detectives learned the man had stabbed himself and then ran towards a security guard while holding a knife. The security guard ordered the man to drop the knife, and when the man did not comply, the guard shot him. The security guard performed life-saving measures until first responders arrived. The guard was not injured during the incident.
The incident remains an active investigation and once completed will be reviewed by the San Joaquin County District Attorney’s Office, police said.
