Security officer uses stun gun to subdue man pointing firearm
Jefferson County MO June 28 2017 A gun discharged into the air early Saturday morning when a security guard and a 25-year-old St. Charles man wrestled over it at a fireworks stand in the Fenton area.
The 25-year-old was arrested and the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office will seek charges against him for alleged robbery in the first degree, armed criminal action and unlawful use of a weapon, the Sheriff’s Office reported.
The suspect arrived at the fireworks stand, located under a tent near the intersection of Hwy. 30 and Old Sugar Creek Road, at about 5 a.m., when the business was closed. He would not leave despite a security guard’s repeated requests for him to leave the business, the report said.
The man then allegedly pulled a gun and pointed it at the guard, the report said.
“A struggle ensued and the security guard gained control of the firearm,” the report said.
The security guard then tried to push the man out of the tent, and the two fought over the gun for a second time. During the fight, the gun went off into the air, the report said.
The security guard pulled out a stun gun and stunned the man, which “temporarily subdued” him, according to the report.
Deputies from the Sheriff’s Office responded to a call about a fight in progress at 5:17 a.m. and reached the fireworks stand soon after the man was stunned.
They arrested the suspect and he was transported to a local hospital where he was treated for minor injuries that occurred during the fight, the report said.
The man was later taken to the Jefferson County Jail in Hillsboro where he was booked, held for 24 hours, then released pending application for warrants.
