Security officer wounded during liquor store robbery at Birchleigh North Mall

A security officer was wounded during an armed robbery at Birchleigh North Mall on Tuesday evening.
“Three suspects went into Pick n Pay Liquor just before it closed pretending to be customers. One of them took out a firearm and pointed it at the employees,” said W/O Mahlodi Langa, acting spokesperson for Norkem Park SAPS.
“The suspects took a case of whisky and an undisclosed amount of money from one of the tills.”
Langa said the security officer was shot at one of the mall’s gates.
“The suspects shot at one of the security guards on their way out to prevent him from stopping them from escaping. The suspects then fled the scene,” said Langa.
Langa said none of the customers and employees were injured and a case of business robbery is being investigated.
