COVENTRY TOWNSHIP, Ohio The Summit County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a deadly shooting by a security officer that has left a teen dead.
According to a press release, deputies responded to the 2600 block of South Arlington Road in Coventry Township around 2 a.m. Sunday.
A report of gunshots had come from a location where an event was being held earlier in the evening, the sheriff’s office said.
According to investigators, a security guard fired a shot that hit a 19-year-old in the chest.
The teen died at the hospital.
According to the medical examiner’s office, the victim was identified as Jayvon Jones-Dehart, from Orrville.
The sheriff’s office recovered a handgun.
Charges have not been filed at this time.
A second fatal shooting in a neighboring state has also left one man dead after being shot by a security officer.
This shooting occurred in Daviess County Kentucky.
DCSO General Investigations Unit detectives continue to investigate the events that led to the fatal shooting.
“At this time, it is believed that the deceased subject was attending a party at the Knights of Columbus and that a fight broke out involving multiple party guests,” a release from DCSO says. “Security guards attempted to break up the fight which had moved out into the parking lot, and they encountered a male subject who was armed with a handgun.
After a brief confrontation, one of the security guards fired his weapon striking the male subject.”
Deputies attempted life-saving measures including CPR until medical units from AMR Ambulance, the Daviess County Fire Department, and the Thruston Fire Department arrived and took over medical care, authorities said.
According to DCSO, the security guards remained on scene and have been interviewed by detectives.
“The weapon that was fired has been logged into DCSO evidence.
Multiple witnesses have been interviewed so far by detectives, and cell phone video evidence that appears to have captured the shooting has been collected by detectives and will be analyzed by the DCSO Forensic Investigations Unit,” DCSO said.
An autopsy for the deceased male subject has been scheduled for Monday morning.
