Security snags shoplifter with drugs
Hamilton Canada May 1 2019 A Hamilton man facing several warrants for his arrest, including on drug trafficking charges, was arrested Monday after police say he stole two bottles of cologne from a drug store.
A security guard at Jackson Square mall stopped police at about 1 p.m., police say, and told them he had seen a man commit a theft at the Rexall Drugstore. The guard pointed out the man to police, they say, and officers ordered him to stop. Instead, they say, he entered a taxi cab.
Police say they followed the cab to near the GO station on Hunter Street, arrested the 40-year-old man and found on him two unopened bottles of cologne.
They said in a press release the man “had several outstanding court matters related to drug trafficking and other serious offences.”
After the man was taken into custody, police say, they found that “he was in possession of drug paraphernalia and an undisclosed amount of illicit drugs believed to be crack cocaine.”
The man is scheduled to appear in court today, police say, to answer to several charges including, among others, theft, “drug trafficking, assault police, mischief, forcible confinement, utter threats and violations to previous court orders.”
