Several juveniles were arrested after a fight at Westfarms mall
Farmington CT December 28 2019 Several juveniles were arrested after a fight at Westfarms in West Hartford Thursday, according to Farmington police.
Police said they responded to the mall as a precaution when they received a call about a large group of juveniles. While there, officers spotted a fight.
Officers intervened and helped Westfarms security clear the area. Several juveniles were arrested and charged with disorderly conduct and interfering with an officer.
Video from inside the mall showed large crowds being directed by security personnel. The person who took the video said she was locked inside a store during the chaos.
The mall was not closed and police stayed on scene to ensure the safety of the public.
Westfarms spokesperson Amanda Sirica released a statement:
“The safety and security of our customers and employees is our first priority. This unacceptable conduct undermines our family friendly standards. We thank the Police and security that acted swiftly to restore normal operating conditions. We continue to actively assist the Farmington and West Hartford police investigation into this matter.”
In Milford, The Connecticut Post Mall was closed Thursday after several fights broke out there. This is the second year in a row that the mall was forced to close the day after Christmas due to such a disturbance.
A similar situation happened in Manchester in 2018, when four people were arrested after multiple fights broke out at The Shoppes at Buckland Hills.
This year, two malls in Connecticut, including the Shoppes at Buckland Hills, instituted mandatory curfews for visitors under 18.
