Police arrested a man Saturday evening after items were stolen and a store employee was assaulted at a downtown business.
The man was seen by store security putting items in his jacket pockets before leaving the store without paying.
Security caught up with him in the parking lot and tried to take him back into the store.
The man attempted to run away before threatening and then punching the security guard in the head several times.
The man then escaped but was arrested by police a short time later while he was walking near the intersection of King and Queen streets. The stolen items were recovered.
The Kingston man, 32, was charged with robbery, possession of stolen items under $5,000 and breach of probation.
