Shoplifter in custody after struggling with Macy’s security and police
TRUMBULL CT Aug 8 2019 A man who Macy’s security accused of shoplifting struggled with store security and with police officers when they tried to take him into custody.
Police responded to the store to assist security on Tuesday afternoon.
Police said Robert Lee Banks, 48, of West Haven, was caught trying to leave the Trumbull Mall with $247 worth of stolen clothing Tuesday.
Banks, who has seven outstanding arrest warrants, was seen by Macy’s security walking out of a dressing room wearing clothes that had not been purchased.
When officers tried to apprehend Banks, police said, he made a dash for the exit, shoving an officer in the process. Despite his efforts, Banks was eventually controlled by police and placed under arrest.
Banks was charged with interfering with police and sixth-degree larceny. He was held on $5,000 bond and given a court date on Aug. 12.
There were no reported injuries during the incident.
