Shoplifter stabs Alabama Belk loss prevention agents
Trussville AL January 23 2019 Two Belk loss prevention employees were stabbed Monday afternoon when they approached a shoplifting suspect, according to Trussville police.
The attack happened just before 2:30 p.m. at Belk in Trussville, said Trussville police Lt. Phil Dillon.
Authorities said the two employees – who were not uniformed security guards – approached the suspect after spotting him stealing undisclosed items.
At that point, the suspect – an adult white male – pulled some type of knife and cut both loss prevention employees. He then fled into a wooded area near the Pinnacle shopping area.
Both employees were taken to the hospital with injuries that aren’t life-threatening.
Dillon said tracking dogs were brought in. The suspect was taken into custody on the Interstate 59 woods line.
His name is being withheld pending formal charges. Dillon said more information will be released Tuesday.
