Shoplifter threatens to shoot Paddock Mall security officer
OCALA, Fla. Aug 19 2020— Police say a man threatened to shoot a security officer at Paddock Mall on Tuesday.
The man had attempted to shoplift from multiple stores and became angry when he was approached by security, according to police. That’s when he threatened to open fire on them.
However, the man did not, instead fleeing the mall on foot, police say.
Officers made contact with the man, who was not in possession of a firearm.
When the call for threats of a shooting came in to dispatch, the system classified it as a shooting, according to the report. This is done so that officers are made aware of the potential for danger during their call.
Police have not released information on the suspect or whether or not he was arrested.
