Shoplifters threaten to shoot security guard while taking food
MEMPHIS, Tenn. March 16 2024Â Memphis police are searching for a group of shoplifters who rushed out of a local grocery store without paying, but not before threatening to shoot the security guard who confronted them.
Police say the assault happened on Sunday at the Superlo located at 3327 North Watkins Street.
Surveillance video shows the first man in a white hoodie speedwalking through the self-checkout with a black bag filled with ribs and other food items. The security guard monitoring the self-checkout section attempts to stop the man from walking past him with the merchandise, and the suspect responds by snatching the bag, but the guard maintains his grip, causing the ribs to fall to the floor.
As the suspect rushes off, abandoning his loot, two more men follow behind just seconds later. As the security officer addresses them, one of the suspects in black turns around, points a gun at the guard, and threatens to shoot him, according to police.
Luckily, no one was injured. Police are now asking for the public’s help to identify the three suspects.
