Shoplifting, armed robbery suspect arrested after chase in Flowood MS
Flowood MS June 19 2017 A shoplifting suspect who fled from Flowood police on Monday was also wanted for an armed robbery in 2016.
Around 11 a.m. an officer responded to Wal-Mart on Mississippi 25 to take an alleged shoplifter into custody.
The suspect, Jacariel Kevion Johnson, reportedly resisted arrest and fled the store. Johnson, 20, drove away in a 2004 Mercedes-Benz SUV.
After a brief pursuit, Johnson was captured by other officers.
“One of our responding officers recognized the shoplifter from a July 2016 armed robbery. Although the suspect wasn’t caught back in July, he was subsequently identified by our detectives and we were looking for him.
The incident in 2016 resulted in the suspect using a knife to rob a nearby convenient store and fled in the same vehicle he used today,” Chief of Police Richie McCluskey said in a news release.
Johnson, who is from Brandon, was charged with resisting arrest, fleeing from law enforcement officers, two counts of shoplifting and traffic violations.
Armed robbery charges are pending in connection to the 2016 case, FPD said.
