Shoplifting charged in assault on Macy’s store security agent
WAILUKU HI November 8 2019 A Paia woman was arrested Monday after she hit a security officer with her cellphone when she was stopped for shoplifting more than $1,000 in merchandise from a Kahului store, police said.
Cherish Kosi, 26, was charged with second-degree theft and third-degree assault.
Her bail was set at $6,000.
A security manager at Macy’s reported seeing Kosi hiding women’s clothing and slippers in her purse and a Macy’s shopping bag at about 1:20 p.m. Monday in the store at Queen Ka’ahumanu Center, according to police.
When she left the store without paying for the merchandise, the security manager confronted Kosi, who threw the shopping bag into the store and ran back inside, police said.
The security manager struggled with Kosi over her purse, which contained stolen merchandise, when she hit him on his face with the cellphone, according to police.
Police arrested Kosi at the store.
