Shoplifting spree foiled by Lord & Taylor security in Stamford
STAMFORD CT Dec 5 2017 — Two city women were charged with larceny on Friday after they were caught allegedly shoving nearly $2,500 worth of merchandise into diaper bags that belonged to a baby boy they took to a city department store.
Sgt. Jennifer Pinto said a little after 3 p.m. on Black Friday, police were called to Lord & Taylor on the report of two women reportedly caught shoplifting.
Pinto said the two were watched as they walked from department to department while shoving items from shelves and racks into the bottom of the stroller carrying an infant.
The two then went into a fitting room with the boy, but when they came out there was nothing in the bottom of the stroller. The two were followed as they tried to exit the store.
Store security then discovered all the items in the bottom of the stroller had been stuffed into the diaper bags they were carrying with the boy, Pinto said.
Pinto said the diaper bags contained 29 items — shoes, clothing and jewelry — that were worth a little over $2,300.
Leydi Elvira, 23, of Betts Avenue and Irma Calena, 31, of Stillwater Avenue, were each charged with third-degree larceny and conspiracy to commit third-degree larceny. Family members were called to pick up the baby boy and the two were released after posting a $1,000 court appearance bond.
