Shots fired at armored truck during botched robbery attempt at Atlanta mall

At least two gunmen remain on the run after firing at an armored truck during a botched robbery attempt Friday at a southwest Atlanta mall.
No one was injured when the two allegedly shot at a driver and a security guard working to service an ATM at Greenbriar Mall. According to Atlanta police, the security guard was able to return fire.
The security officer, who is employed with Loomis, told police they were approached by someone in a black sedan around 8 a.m. The security guard said he informed the driver of the sedan the ATM was temporarily down.
“At that time, a male exited the vehicle with a rifle and started to fire at the victim,” Atlanta police spokeswoman Officer Lisa Bender said in a statement. “The victim stated that he was able to retreat to a position behind the armored vehicle and returned fire towards the suspects.”
A passenger in the sedan also fired toward the security officer, she said. The gunmen then jumped back into the sedan and drove away, the security guard told police.
“Nothing was taken and at this time, no injuries have been reported,” Bender said.
Police are still investigating the incident. No further description of the suspects or their vehicle has been released.
