Simi Valley crossing guard killed by driver
Simi Valley CA December 21 2018 A 62-year-old Simi Valley woman was hit and killed by a vehicle while she was working as a crossing guard on Tuesday afternoon.
The crash occurred around 2 p.m. at Los Angeles and Socrates avenues.
Police arrived and found paramedics caring for the crossing guard. She was taken by ambulance to a hospital but was pronounced dead when she arrived, authorities said.
Police said they learned the victim was standing on a curb of Los Angeles Avenue at the northwest corner when she was hit by a blue Chevrolet Cruze that was involved in a collision with two other vehicles.
Simi police closed the intersection to all traffic in order to conduct a death investigation. Everyone involved in the crash is cooperating with the investigation, according to Sgt. Steve Shorts, a spokesman for the Simi Valley Police Department.
A car crash on Oct. 12 also caused significant injuries to a Simi Valley crossing guard. Robert Belanger, 57, was critically injured after pushing a pedestrian out of the way of an oncoming vehicle near Royal Avenue and Vaquero Drive. His condition eventually stabilized after the crash.
