Slidell Louisiana Police Officer Theresa Simon Dies During On Duty Medical Emergency
Slidell, LA June 16 2021– Slidell Police Department SPD Officer Theresa Simon died in the line of duty on Sunday afternoon after suffering a medical emergency.
The SPD confirmed the 46-year-old veteran officer’s unexpected death in a Facebook post later the same day.
“It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Slidell Police Officer Theresa Simon,” the department said. “This afternoon, Officer Simon was on-duty and suffered, presumably, a massive heart attack.”
She was immediately rushed to Slidell Memorial Hospital, where medical personnel attempted “all possible lifesaving measures,” but to no avail, the SPD said.
“This is a big loss to our law enforcement family and citizens of Slidell,” SPD Chief Randy Fandal said in the agency’s post. “Officer Simon served and protected this city for over a decade and touched the lives of many.”
Officer Simon joined the SPD in 2002 after earning a degree in criminal justice from Southeastern Louisiana University.
During her nearly 20 years of service, she worked as a patrol officer, academy instructor, detective, and field training officer before entering into her most recent assignment as a school resource officer at Little Oak Middle School, the SPD said.
“Just this past week, Officer Simon studied hard and passed her promotional exam for sergeant,” the department noted.
Officer Simon received a multitude of awards during her career, and was also selected to represent her agency on the former reality television show, Live PD.
“Officer Simon was loved and well-respected by all,” her department said.
She leaves behind her husband, SPD Lieutenant Kevin Simon, as well as her 10-year-old and two-year-old sons.
“Please keep the Simon family in your thoughts and prayers as this will be a very difficult time for them, as well as all of us here at the Slidell Police Department,” Chief Fandal said.
