South Carolina deputy with 33 years of service passes away from ‘tragic accident at home’
SPARTANBURG COUNTY, S.C. December 10 2022 A deputy from Spartanburg passed away after a “tragic accident at his home” several weeks ago, according to the sheriff’s office.
Robert Charles “Taco” Talanges, 60, began his law enforcement career in 1989 as a patrol officer with the Woodruff Police Dept, officials said.
In 1990 he transferred to the Spartanburg Police Dept. where he was both a patrol officer and firefighter, deputies said.
His career transferred him to the city’s forensic division in 1997 and in 2020 he was promoted to Sergeant over the forensic unit, which made him responsible for all major crime scenes, and he also trained many of our other forensic officers.
In 2021, he worked with the civil division up until his recent passing.
Deputies said he was also a member of the Sheriff’s Office Dive Team.
“This agency extends our deepest sympathy to his family, his friends, and his fellow sisters and brothers in blue and sincerely thank him for his 33 years of dedicated and loyal service to the citizens of Spartanburg County,” the department said on Facebook.
