Stamford Man Accused Of Macing, Head-Butting Security Guards
STAMFORD, CT July 5 2019 Police said a local man is accused of macing and head-butting two security guards at Stamford Hospital on Sunday.
According to Sergeant Jennifer Pinto, the incident occurred after Jehiner Berrio, 23, of Stamford arrived at the hospital around 11 p.m. on Saturday, complaining of chest pains.
The accused was discharged around 2 a.m. but “wasn’t happy with the care he got” and wanted to see another doctor, Pinto said. Security guards were then called to escort the accused off the property.
According to Pinto, the accused subsequently maced one of the security guards in the face and head-butted the other. Following the incident, one of the injured guards was able to flag down an officer who was pulling into the emergency room parking lot.
Pinto said police also found brass knuckles that contained a three-inch folding knife in the accused’s backpack. He was charged with two counts of second-degree assault and possession of a dangerous weapon, Pinto said.
“The safety and security of our patients and staff is our highest priority,” Stamford Health said in a statement emailed to Patch. “While we cannot comment on individual cases, it is our policy to discharge patients when it is determined to be medically appropriate.”
