Stamford man throws razor at security- charged with robbery at Target
STAMFORD CT Nov 24 2019— A city man was arrested on a warrant and slapped with a robbery charge for allegedly shoplifting from Target last month and chasing a store security guard with an old-fashioned straight razor.
Sgt. Michael Franzetti said on Oct. 30 around 7 p.m. a man, later identified as Anthony Nunez, was lingering near Target’s stock room and attempting to remove headphones from the display aisle.
As a security guard was on his way to talk to the man, he went into the stock room where he tried to take an Apple iPad, Franzetti said. The asset protection officer reached the stock room and removed the iPad from Nunez’s hands.
The security guard saw what looked to be a knife in Nunez’s hand. The guard pushed Nunez away and began escorting him out of the store. Nunez told the man he would be waiting for him after work and would get him on the streets, Franzetti said.
Nunez then began chasing the asset protection officer. At one point he took a straight razor out of his pocket, opened it, threw it at the guard and ran off, Franzetti said. The asset protection officer was not injured.
Investigating officer Matthew Romano was able to get pictures of the man off store security cameras and another officer, Will Guray, recognized the suspect as Nunez, Franzetti said.
A warrant was obtained for his arrest and Romano spotted Nunez, 38, on a bicycle on West Main Street Thursday. He was charged with attempted second-degree robbery and disorderly conduct and held overnight on a $50,000 court-appearance bond.
But at his arraignment Friday, Judge Bruce Hudock looked at Nunez’s past criminal record and the allegations against him and raised the bond to $250,000.
