State of the art security technology now in use at Las Vegas hotel
LAS VEGAS NV October 3 2018 The Westgate Hotel in Las Vegas may be the most secure resort in all of Nevada.
For the past year, it has been part of a pilot program with a security company called Patriot One Technologies.
“So you can have your central security, and you have all your sensors around the resort, so you need a lot fewer people to man a smart system,” said CEO Martin Cronin.
Cronin explained how those sensors, which can be hidden in walls, even flooring, use microwave-radar technology to detect a potential threat. For example, a firearm, even a bomb.
Analytics Manager James Stewart says the system uses software that integrates with existing camera and alarm setups. The advance alert can provide security staff with precious seconds to alleviate a danger.
“And this is very important because without those 20 seconds, the first time you see a gun it could be right at the door,” said Stewart.
Though the Westgate wouldn’t provide specifics, The Patriot One system we’re told has been successful. The system is also being tested on several campuses around the country, and developers are convinced it could have made a difference on One October.
“Well certainly we’ve looked at that and other incidents, not just in the U.S. but around the world, because that shapes our development. We want to prevent precisely those sorts of attacks,” said Cronin.
The technology, they say, is so advanced it will not alert with ordinary items like cell phones or a set of keys. And unlike airport metal detectors, developers say there’s no obvious stopping point or pat-downs needed.
